NAUTI THOUGHTS: "Healthy" Foods

H A P P Y  W E L L N E S S  W E D N E S D A Y

If someone was to come up on the street and give you a list of random everyday foods, do you think you would be able to classify them as healthy or unhealthy? If you are anything like me, you would probably be surprised about how many you get wrong!

The food market is very tricky and easily deceives us into thinking certain foods are "healthier" than others or a better alternative, when in reality, these foods can be just as unhealthy or worse for our bodies.

This post will provide you with three food items that are marketed as a healthy options, but in reality, they are doing more harm then good.

AGAVE
Do not be fooled by the natural appeal to agave. If anyone has ever told you that agave is better for you than sugar, THEY ARE LIARS. When you look at the chemical breakdown of agave, it contains about 20% more fructose than sugar does. If the body intakes excess amounts of fructose, it could lead to severe metabolic issues and liver damage.

GLUTEN-FREE PRODUCTS
Being that I am someone who has a gluten allergy, I get so confused when I see people choose gluten-free products. Not only do gluten-free products typically not taste as good as gluten-infested foods, but they also cost more and can be significantly worse for you health wise. Gluten-free products are typically all manufactured. Almost nothing about these foods is real and is usually processed. If you are trying to cut gluten out of your diet for health reasons... simply cut it out entirely. Don't substitute it for the gluten-free options because they aren't better for you.

PREPACKAGED TRAIL MIX
Nuts loaded with protein, dried fruits packed with natural sugars, and little bit of chocolate, what about this seems like a bad snack option? Trail mix is one of the tricker non healthy foods. Prepackaged trail mix is infused with added sugars and highly caloric. Because of the yummy taste, it is also difficult for people to stop at one serving size which causes them to ingest an excess of fats and sugars.

In this day and age, it is so hard to know what is good for you and what isn't because of all the false advertising that we receive daily. Something important to keep in mind is if you aren't sure if something is good for you or not, research research research! Although so many false facts can be thrown your way, if you take the time to actually research what you are eating, you will find the truth about what you are putting in your body. You know what they say, you are what you eat!
