The Sunday Scaries!
The Sunday Scaries... let's talk about 'em. I don't know if it's just me, but they seem to have been hitting harder as this school year starts to pick up. I know I have always been one to feel more and more anxious as my work load gets heavier and while juggling school, work, friends, and everything else life throws at you it can all start to feel like a lot. However, I do think over the past couple of years I have learned a thing or two about handling my work load and prioritizing my mental health. So before October turns into your worst nightmare, heres a few tricks and tips I have found to help me manage the MANY contributing factors of The Sunday Scaries!
1. DON'T WAIT TILL SUNDAY!
Although this may seem obvious, it really is the first step in avoiding them.... It seems as though we go through the week believing we have everything under control until all the sudden the next week you have four assignments due, three birthday parties and zero time. A cute little recipe for disaster if you ask me. To avoid this, every Monday I like to go through everything I have to do that week and make a weekly schedule. For me, my work schedule is always changing so I sit down, look at what days I work and when I have assignments due or tests and make sure I give each task a designated time, and most importantly STICK TO IT!
*it may seem unnecessary but I even designate a time for grocery shopping, spending time with friends, working out, and lots of other little things because if I don't I will reach Sunday and feel like the whole world is on my shoulders.
2. Know Yourself
It can be so easy to write on your calendar when you plan on doing something, but the key is to be realistic. If you put too much on your plate one day, it will look too daunting and you will most likely put it off until later... this is also known as procrastinating which ultimately leads to the Sunday Scaries. I work better in the morning time, and know that after about 2pm I wont get any work done. Those midday slumps always hit me so hard. So, when I choose a time to do my homework I make sure its on a day when I have my morning free. This may take some time to figure out what works best for you, so be patient with yourself and pay attention to what feels the best to you.
*this is also important when it comes to studying with friends! It's great in theory, but just make sure you don't try to do an assignment that takes lots of concentration. Save those learnsmarts and busy work assignments for coffee dates so you can catch up with friends and get work done, it's a win win for everyone :)
3. Discipline Over Motivation
This phrase is from one of my favorite vloggers! It's perfect because lets be honest, you can preach motivation all you want but some days the motivation is just not. there. at. all. That's where the discipline comes in, because if you're anything like me the last thing you want hovering over your shoulder while you're our with your friends is the thought of all the responsibilities you have to do the next day. So it's gonna take some self-discipline to make yourself sit down, on let's say a Tuesday or Wednesday, and get the school work done. Just think of how much your future self will appreciate and loveee you???
In conclusion, I can say Sundays are actually my favorite day of the week. I practice some self care by making pancakes every Sunday and have the day to myself to watch tv, go on a hike or go out with friends. The weeks are long and some are tougher than others, but making the time to get the not so fun stuff out of the way seems to make them a little better. Let's turn those Sunday Scaries into a Sunday Fundays!
Stay Nauti,
Brooke
